NOTES:
Mary J. Ward Whitaker murdered her husband in Jefferson County, Georgia and was sent to the Insane Asylum
at Midway. The State Hospital was called Midway at that time in Millegeville, Georgia. Their children was divided
and raised by the following families: Joshua was taken in and raised by William H. "Billy" Reeves of McDuffie
County, Georgia and William and Jane are listed in the 1880 census for Jefferson County, Georgia living in the
household of their grandmother Susan Lee Ward. Mary J. Whitaker is buried on the grounds of the State Hospital
in Millegeville, Georgia. Joshua P. Whitaker is buried on what is now Fort Gordon.
