lst Corporal Green B. Utley, CSA, was the son of
William and Susan Milton Utley of Burke Co., Ga.  He was the grandson of
Henry Y. Utley, Sr., and Peter and Sarah Thompson Milton.
He enlisted in the CSA on March 4, 1862.He served with Co. D, Georgia
Infantry Regiment, "Burke's Volunteers", AONV.  He was first wounded at
the Battle of Manassas, Va., between Aug. 28th and 30th, 1862. He was
wounded a second time at the Battle of Petersburg, Va., near Carter, on
July 30, 1864.  He was taken to a Richmond, Va., hospital where he died
of complications on Sept. 18, 1864. He is buried in Hollywood Cemetery,
Richmond, Va.  Green Utley was but 15 years old when he enlisted. He was
appointed 3rd Corporal in March of 1863; 1st Corporal in July of 1863.
This young man died at the age of 17 years having taken a leadership roll
far beyond his years.
