* Research of John Burnett of Reno, NV and Dr. Donald O'Rourke of Gallipolis, Ohio.
* Military Record of William P. Reese, William P. Reese served in the Confederate Army as a Private in Standridge's Company, Smith's Legion, georgia Partisan Rangers. He enlisted May of 1862 at Hiawassee, Towns County, Georgia. He also served as a Private and later a Sergeant in Company A, 6th Regiment Georgia Calvary. He later deserted from the Confederate Army in November 1863. He took the Oath of Allegiance on September 23, 1864 in Louisville, kentucky. He had written home to his wife prior to his desertion describing that he and other men were walking barefoot in the snow while on campaign and that he did not know how much more he could stand. A short time later he deserted.
