of John Milledge edited by Harriet Milledge Salley, Obits of each,
Augusta Chronicle/Herald microfilm records, "Early Settlers of Georgia,
Part II. John and Martha were close friends of Thomas Jefferson and his
daughter, Mrs. Randolph.  He corresponded extensively with Jefferson.
Martha's obit contains in-depth details of her terminal illness. Because
they had no children they adopted the second son of her brother, John
Milledge Galphin I.  Estate papers of Milledge from the SCDAH, extensive
records, including those from the farm of his brother-in-law Thomas
Galphin which he purchased and which was managed by the executors of
Milledge's estate.a
