Notes:
* According to Abbie DILLARD, H.C. BAILEY's obit states that he was born in Twiggs Co. GA.
* H.C. spent much of his life in Americus, GA, where he was a pharmacist and owned a drug store. According to family members when the Civil War broke out he became a doctor at the nearby Andersonville Prison, reportedly along with his brother Wellburn (Wellborne) BAILEY. Pension records have been found for Wellburn but as yet I have not found an official record of H.C.'s work at the prison. There is some indication that the parents of H.C. were from North Carolina, but an official record has not yet been found.
* An official record of military service has not yet been located but in the book "History of Sumter Co." there is a letter by Lt. HEYS, a member of the Sumter Flying Artillery, which refers to a "Dr. BAILEY who was being discharged".
* After the war H.C. developed asthma and was forced to leave Americus for health reasons, going first to Cartersville, GA, and later to Acworth, GA.
* Frances Mary (BAILEY) BOSWORTH is buried in Oak Grove Cemetery in Americus. H.C. owned a burial plot in that cemetery but he himself is buried in a family plot in the Liberty Hill Cemetery in Acworth, GA.
* Willie M. (MCDOWELL) BAILEY and Kate GOOD co-authored a book, "The History of Cobb County" published about 1960, now out of print. Willie was also Vice President of the state General Federation of Women's Clubs. Her husband, Eugene, (Dr. Gene), was a medical doctor in Acworth and Atlanta for many years.
* According to Jeff BOSWORTH, H.C. had four stillborn children, all buried with Frances BOSWORTH in grave #72 in Oak Grove in Americus.
* Dovrannah (BAILEY) MAYO was my grandmother. The MAYO family lived in Americus for many years.
