Marriage Licenses for John James Bowers and Sarah
Elizabeth Bowers were obtained from the Fayette County, Ga. Historical
Society.                                                        Fayette
County, Ga. Census Records for the years of 1850 to 1860.
Fayette County, Ga. Cemetery Records, 2nd printing of the Fayette County
Historical Society.                              Levi Bates Bowers
enlisted May 1862 at Griffin in Spaulding Co., Ga. He was a private in
Capt. Huies Company G of the 44th (Inf. Regt.) of the Ga. Volunteers
commanded by Col. Robert A. Smith.
There were several discrepancies in Levi's service records concerning the
date of his enlistment and the date of his death. (There were several men
named Levi Bowers and one of them was also in the Civil War and I believe
this is where the discrepancies originated).
Delilah Bowers appeared before the court in Fayette County, Ga. along
with Howell Hubbard and Richard Dorman, a Justice of the Peace, on 17
April 1863. They appeared with her on her behalf, testifying that they
knew Levi Bowers and Delilah, proving she was the widow of Levi Bates
Bowers. Delilah Bowers wanted the Government of the Confederate States to
issue the back pay that was due to Levi Bowers for his service in the
war.             Compiled Service Records of Confederate Ga. of the 44th
Infantry, A-B, Microfilm No. M 266, Roll No. 465                John
James Bowers filed a petition for Letters of Administration on the Estate
of Levi B. Bowers on 31 July 1918. Minutes of the Court, Ordinary's
Office Bk. 1916, Pg. 14, No. 2.
Administrator's Bond on 17 Sept. 1918. Adminisitrator's Bond Bk. B, Pg.
301.                                                 John James Bowers
was appointed administrator of the Estate of Levi B. Bowers.
Application to Sell Land on 07 Oct. 1918.                    Levi Bowers

in the 1293rd District of said County, bounded on the No. by K. B. Banks,
on the West by A. D. Banks, on the So. by J. J. Hubbard & K. B. Banks,
and on the East by B. H. Scott and known as the D. J. Owens old home
