Notes for Daniel GRINER Daniel Griner served in the Indian War of 1836 under Capt. Hamilton W. Sharpe of the Georgia Militia. He united with the Flat Creek (Emmeus) Primitive Baptist Church and was baptized on August 30, 1878. He died and was buried in the Flat Creek Cemetery about 1888. Notes for Emanuel GRINER Emanuel Griner was born and grew up in Effingham County. It was cut into Bulloch County when it was formed in 1796. In 1829 he sold his 807 acre farm located in Bulloch County to John Mikell and bought a farm from John Smith and moved to Lowndes County, where the present town of Nashville, Berrien County is located. He lived on his plantation there until his death in 1852 He was buried in a small burying-ground that later became the town cemetery when Nashville was built up following the creation of Berrien County in 1856. It is now known as the "Old Cemetery" in Nashville. His wife died soon after and is also buried there. Their graves are unmarked. Sources for Emanuel GRINER Judge Folks Huxford. Notes for Nancy Ann HANCOCK In the 1870 Berrien County census, Nancy Ann Griner was 93 years old and living with the Burrell Hancock family. ------------------------------------ ------------------------------------ Children of Emanuel GRINER and Nancy Ann HANCOCK were as follows: ------------------------------------ ------------------------------------ i Amy5 GRINER , born 1803 in Berrien, GA; buried in Griner Cemetery, Berrien, GA. Amy Griner was born in 1803 and married William Kirby before they moved to South Georgia with her parents. The Kirbys lived on a farm on Old coffee Road which is now the city limits. Their house was very near to where the present Baptist parsonage is located, which is in the 1000 block of Coffee Road. William Kirby hauled supplies by wagon from Mobley's Bluff on the Ocmulgee River to Flat Creek Mills where Hustus Moore operated a store. William Kirby was killed by a runaway horse in the 1850s, and he was one of the first people to be burried in Flat Creek Cemetery. His grave is unmarked. Amy is said to have been burried in the old Griner Cemetery near Beetree and Jackson. Her grave is also unmarked. William Kirby was born in 1797 in Bullock County, GA and he married there. S.5 GRINER born 1806 in Bulloch, GA; died 1871 in , Berrien, GA. William S.H. Griner served in the Indian War of 1836. He was a member of Emmeus (Flat Creek) Primitive Baptist Church where he served as church clerk 1847-1857. He was excluded in July, 1865, while his wife was united with the same church in May, 1867, remaining a member until her death in about 1875. Samuel Griner served in the Indian War in Capt. Hamilton W. Sharpe's Company of Lowndes County Militia in 1836. He and his second wife were members of Flat Creek Primitive Baptist Church. He was received in to the church by baptism, December 1862 and she came in by l etter soon after they married. They moved their membership to the Empire church in December 1869. She died there a member, but he transferred his church membership to Pleasant Church on March 19, 1887. He was dismissed by letter from Pleasant Church September 13, 1889, and his subsequent church history has not been traced. His last wife was a member of the Pleasant Church, also, joining as Mrs. Elizabeth Baker by baptism, September 14, 1861. She was dismissed by letter September 17, 1892. Her subsequent church membership has not beeh traced. He had four wives and sired 17 children. He is buried at Burnt Church, near his third wife at Lakeland, Georgia. His first wife was buried in the Old Nashville Cemetery. He died at the home of his son, George Wesley Griner, who lived about a mile west of Flat Creek Cemetery. The body was taken to Burnt Church in a mule and wagon, but it was too late to have the funeral on that day. Sam was buried, his kin folks spent the night with relatives who lived in the vicinity of the cemetery, and the funeral was conducted the following day. Judge Folks Huxford. Strickland was born in North Carolina. He is found in Georgia first about 1812 where he married in McIntosh county. His first wife was a Miss Poppell. By her he had four children. After her death, he then married Miss Rachel S. Chauncey in Tattnall County. He moved from McIntosh County to Liberty County, thence to Appling County in 1819. Following his second marriage he moved to Jefferson County, Florida. He moved around 1835 to Lowndes County, Georgia and settled in the portion which later became Berrien County. Notes for John Martin GRINER (RS) John Martin Griner was a private in the Georgia Militia during the Revolutionary War. He was wounded in the leg at the battle of Eutaw Springs, SC. He was a large landholder and influential citizen of St. Georges Parrish, SC. He was commissioned an ensign in the 4th Company of Col. David Douglas' regiment on 9 December 1757 and a lieutnant in Capt. Andrew McCurrie's Company on 6 October 1762. He was a Justice of the Peace from August 25, 1760 until his death. He was appointed by the General Assembly on April 24, 1760 to see to the building and repairs of forts and round houses for the security of St. Georges Parrish, along with David Emanuel, Casper Griner, John Kennedy, Nathaniel Miller, John Kitt and Robert Bevil. He was later commissioned March 6, 1766 to serve as surveyor of the road from northwest line of Matthews Parrish to the northwesr line of St. Georges Parrish, along with James Nesmith, Thomas Morgan, Andrew McCurrie and Thomas Read.
