*Robert J. Holt was a Captain during the Civil War and fought with numerous Delaware Infantry Regiments. During the end of the War he was Battalion Commander for the 8th Regiment. His Regiment of three companies participated in the Appomattox Campaign. They were present at the surrender of Gen Robert E. Lee and also marched in the Grand Review in Washington, DC on May 23, 1865. The Regiment was mustered out on June 5, 1865.
*Sallie Shaw’s family worked in the marine industry and her brother Richard was a Ship’s Captain one of which was the "Coaster" and he married a Lydia M. (Smith)Padelford from Providence Rhode Island. Capt Shaw also owned shares in two Ships "A Godfrey" & "Margaret" which were Schooners.
*Sometime in the 1880’s Ellsworth (Elsworth)departed Wilmington and was later found him in Rhode Island 1886 were he married Jennie Stowe. No doubt he got there on his uncles Ship. Now between 1906 and 1909 Ellsworth Holt returned to Wilmington Delaware. The 1909 Wilmington City Directory shows an entry for Ellsworth Holt occupation was a painter, living at 232 French Street which was close to the river. Around February 1926, Ellsworth became a patient at the Farnhurst, New Castle Hospital. He was a resident there for 4 yrs, 4 months and 2 days where he died from throat cancer on 4 June 1930.
*Some documents list Jennie Stowe’s last name as Stove or Stone.
*Eugene Holt’s wife Clara was a descendent of the Schwenkfelder families who were exiled from Germany. They arrived in the new world (USA) around 1734 in Phila, Pa., and established a community. There is a Schwenkfelder Family Library located in Pennsburg, PA.
*William A. Holt was a butcher for R.P. Garey and no doubt provided meats to his brothers restaurant.
*Clarence R. Holt was self-employed in 1890 and owned a quick lunch restaurant located at 3 East, 4th Street in Wilmington. He later purchased the property next door at number 5 east, and established a Hotel for Single Men. This establishment was prosperous through his death in 1940.
