Notes for LOWREY, John R: On the 1850 Talladega County, Alabama Federal Census, John R. Lowrey (spelled Lowry on the census) was shown with his wife Louanzy (Louiza) and their four daughters. His occupation was said to be farmer. The family moved to Arkansas sometime after June of 1851, the date of birth of Isaac Thomas Collie Lowrey who was the last child born in Alabama, and 1854, the date of birth of William R. Lowrey who was the first child of this couple born in Arkansas. According to the 1860 Federal Census for Arkadelphia, Clark Co., Arkansas, John R. Lowrey was a constable in Arkadelphia at that time. His name is also on many of the court records for Clark County as constable. His real estate was valued at $1,300. and his personal wealth as $1,200. His occupation on the 1870 census was tenant. On the 1870 Clark Co., Arkansas Federal Census his wife is Sarah A. Lowrey. The spelling of his last name on that census was Lowrey but on the 1860 census it was said to be Lowery. In his daughter Margaret's obituary it was said to be J. R. Lowry. In 1870 two children were living with the family both age eleven. They were William C. and Francis Reynolds and it is assumed they were the children of Sarah's previous marriage. Sarah E. Downing was also living with the family in 1870. Research done by: Wynelle Lowrey Mitchell, great-great-granddaughter of John R. Lowrey The Marriage Records of Clark County Arkansas, Book D, pg. 203, shows a John R. Lowery married Mrs. Nancy Ann Huffman, on 16 Aug 1860 by George W. Wells. The John R. Lowery in this report would have been forty three years of age at the time. The last child born to John R. Lowrey and Louiza Runyan was in 1859 and Louiza Runyan probably died shortly thereafter because she did not appear on the 1860 Federal Census of Clark County, Arkansas with the rest of her family. This John R. Lowery married the widow Nancy Ann Huffman in 1860. The spelling of the name could have been recorded incorrectly. John R. and Nancy Ann Lowery were granted a divorce on August 9th, 1864 listing John R. Lowery as the Complainant and Nancy Ann Lowery as the Defendant in the proceedings. John R. was given custody of a child, three years of age, born of this marriage. The 1870 census of Clark County does not show this child who would have been nine years of age at that time. This may or may not be the John R. Lowrey who was the father of Isaac Thomas Collie Lowrey, however the divorce was granted in Clark County and that is where the father of Isaac T. C. Lowrey was living with his family at the time. Research done by: John Robert Lowrey, great-grandson of John R. Lowrey. The year of birth for John R. Lowrey was from the census records. The year of his death is unknown at the present time. Notes for RUNYAN, Louiza Her name on the marriage record was Louiza. On the 1850 Talladega Co., Alabama Federal Census her name was spelled Louanzy which was probably the phonetic spelling for Louizy. She was the granddaughter of Isaac Barefoot Runyan and Margaret Rambo. The year of her birth is from the 1850 Talladega Co., AL Federal Census and the year of her death is based on the fact that she did not appear on the 1860 Clark Co., AR Federal Census with the rest of her family. Her last child , John R. Lowrey, had been born in December of 1859. The names of her parents came from a book on the RUNYAN FAMILY done by Marie Runyan Wright. Notes for LOWREY, Mary J. (1st child): Her middle initial could also be a D or an S. Her birth date was from the census records for Talladega Co., AL, 1850 and Clark Co., AR, 1860. Notes for LOWREY, Nancy C. (2nd child): This child must have died before the 1860 census was taken because she did not appear on the 1860 Clark County, Arkansas census. Her year of birth is from the 1850 Talladega Co., AL Federal Census. Notes for LOWREY, Margaret C. (3rd child): Died in South Fork Twp., AR. The obituary stated that she was the wife of Thomas Baxter and daughter of J. R. Lowry and was 25 years old at the time of her death. Her birth date was from the census records for Talladega Co., AL, 1850 and Clark Co., AR, 1860. Notes for LOWREY, Susan F. (4th child) Her age on the 1850 Talladega County, Alabama census was shown to be one and the census was taken in November of 1850 so she was probably born in 1849. Notes for LOWREY, Isaac Thomas Collie (5th child) On the 1870 Federal Census for Southfork TWP, Clark County, Arkansas, Isaac is 19 years old and said to be at school. FEDERAL LAND RECORDS FOR CLARK COUNTY, ARKANSAS: Isaac T. Lowrey bought 80 acres of land in Section 25, No T, 9S, R, 21W, on April 27, 1885. The source of this information was the Arkansas GENWEB Project Site. "I never knew anything about my grandfather, Isaac Thomas Collie Lowrey. Since doing this genealogy I have found out he was born in Alabama, went to school in Arkansas, married in Arkansas, bought three lots in McCurtain County, Oklahoma and died in Washington State in 1907 and was buried there. Why he was in the state of Washington, I do not know because he did not take his wife with him. His wife died in Choctaw County, OK and was buried in Hugo, OK." Source: John Robert Lowrey. The year of his birth was from the 1860 Clark Co., AR Federal Census and also his tombstone at Evergreen Cemetery in Everett, Shohomish Co., WA. The year of his death is from his tombstone. Notes for LOWREY, William R. (6th child) William Lowrey died at age twenty four and is buried at South Fork Cemetery in Clark County, Arkansas. The obituary was found in the archives for Clark Co., AR at Quachita University. The year of his birth was from the 1860 Clark Co., AR Federal Census. Notes for LOWREY, John R. (7th child) Was 8 months old on July 16, 1860 when the Federal Census was taken in the city of Arkadelphia, Clark Co., Arkansas. =============================================================== In keeping with our policy of providing free Information on the Internet, data may be used by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
