Documentation: While he was living in A.A. Co., he substituted in the
Militia for five months and was assigned to a company commanded by a Frenchman
LaVah. He enlisted as a Private in Capt. Watkins Co. of the Flying Camp about
Oct. 1, 1776. He served three months as a Private in 1777 in Cap.Borgden's Co.,
Col. Dorseys Maryland reg. and in the battle of Germantown. He enlisted July
1782 in Maryland Militia but was transferred to Capt. Lavasche's Co. under Major
Oxborough of the 4th Maryland Reg. and served five months. He was granted a
furlough to return to his father's home in Prince George's Co. Md. because of a
fever that he contracted in camp. He received a discharge on Dec. 11, 1781 which
was turned over to the auditor of accounts so that he could get his pay.
Sometime between the date of discharge and before July 1782, he removed to Rowan
Co., N.C. and here he enclised in Capt. Sharpe's Co., 18th NC Reg. commanded by
Col. Lyter. He served as a sergeant until his discharge or furloughed near
Charlestown, SC in 1782. His military records reveals all of the above and more.
He and his wife settled in Tennessee and then moved to Rowan Co., N.C. remaining
there about a year and moving to Lauderdale, Ala. where in died on Jan. 20,
1833. In 1833 his surviving children were William, Joseph, Pearson, Ann, (From
