Documentation: Listed in the Georgia State Archives in Atlanta, Passports issued by the Govenors of Georgia 1785-1820, page 93, Mon. March 30, 1812, to Richard Smith, wife and seven children from Checterfield District South Carolina, "to travel through the Indian Nation to the Western Country". They bought land in what was then Conecuh County Alabama and are listed in the first U.S. Census of Alabama in 1820.
